Kenzo x H&M is this years designer collaboration everyone was waiting for. The yearly phenomenon by H&M started in 2004 with a collaboration between the low price fashion house and designer Karl Lagerfeld. It was so successful that H&M decided to announce at least one designer cooperation per year with variously – and top-secret – partners. High fashion houses such as Balmain, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela and Alexander Wang worked together with H&M to create special collections – each of them was greatly successful and sold out within hours!
The idea behind this concept is quite easy: exclusive and high fashion designs for a much lower price. And the plan works out: Fashionistas from all over the world are craving for these limited pieces, and so am I! I really like the idea that so many people get the chance to buy a designer piece they usually couldn’t afford. Everyone has favorite styles and brands so that the one or other was very lucky to get clothes or accessories from their adored designer.
Some of the collections are definitely a matter of taste. The Versace collection(s) for instance were really colorful with huge prints all over and had glittery details and the Margiela designs were super oversized and contemporary – but that is the concept: the brands stay absolutely true to themselves and offer products in their style. So it is obvious that the collections are not always made for everyone.
The KENZO X H&M collaboration was also very unique and a matter of taste. There were some really cool shirts and sweatshirt, but I have to say that I think that this collection is quite difficult. It is characterized through classic KENZO prints – all over in various colors. It is definitely too much for me and I can’t identify myself with those designs. Also, I have noticed that the cut and sizes were way too big.
Anyways, I found this sweater (I bought it in a smaller size than usually for this fit!) The coat is also from the same collection with a black tiger print and a black/ turquoise fake fur collar, also in a tiger print. Those pieces are designed in a classic KENZO look, but very understatement compared to the rest of the collection.
I like to wear these garments a combination with my J Brand dark blue jeans and the black overknees by Gianvito Rossi. My bag perfectly matches the red details of the sweater and the Cèline glasses are great for a cool detailing!
I am a big fan of each years designer collaboration by H&M – but I think you don’t need to buy a piece from every designer – just go and get those from your favorite ones! I am already excited to hear about the next cooperation.
