The Cowboy style is a trending fashion direction deriving from the Wild West in the 19thcentury, when it was a practical working garment for the Cowboys and Cowgirls. First of all, the clothing has to be practical, the materials have to be robust in order to survive long hours sitting on horses or working in the wilderness. Classic pieces are denims, plaid shirts, chaps, cowboy boots, western hats, leather or jeans jackets – there is a wide variety of items. And there are always a lot of leather fringes – for example on chaps, bags or maybe leather vests.
The fashion world has always been keen of the Cowboy style, picking up some of the trends and creating new interpretations or just letting old trends live up again. I personally love the range of products, you can wear them single or hit off a complete look – and just be a Cowgirl in the city for a day. And what is great about it, you can take single pieces and adapt them to a totally different look – practicing my beloved style mix, by combining different items.
For my Cowboy style I started with a long-checkered shirt dress from Polo Ralph Lauren in black and white. For my look I chose to leave it open – in order to show you a cool mix of western pieces underneath. Of course, you can wear this lovely dress buttoned up, for example with a belt around your waist and a jeans jacket over it.
Underneath I am wearing a classic white shirt from Loro Piana. White shirts are practical to have in your closet – they go along with so many styles and they allow you to look elegant or cool – depending on the rest of your outfit. The denims are from Adriano Goldschmied with cool buttons up the front. The high-waist cut allows a feminine silhouette and is comfy as well. For my Cowboy style I fixed my own little Western accessory, with my Chanel brooch in silver around the collar and a leather band hanging down my chest.
The brown suede leather bag with long fringes and a buckle with feathers is from Yves Saint Laurent and is a perfect Cowgirl piece. It goes super well with this styling and the long fringes and feathers take you straight to the wilderness. The leather belt from Isabel Marant has a typical big buckle and keeps the style from head to toe together.
My black Christian Dior Cowboy boots are a classic – the style goes with so many looks and I cannot get them out enough. They look great with a short skirt as well, or a cute little dress – but they couldn’t miss out with this entire western outfit. My mirrored sunglasses from Givenchy add this last cool touch, that every Cowgirl needs.
The Western style is not only for the Cowboys – every city girl can hit off the look and feel the dust of the wild wild west on her skin once in a while!
