Werbung – In cooperation with The Maybourne Riviera
I recently had the honour of returning to The Maybourne Riviera, a hotel that has held a special place in my heart ever since my first visit. Let me take you on a little journey back to this remarkable place on the French Riviera. Perched high above the Mediterranean in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and overlooking the sparkling lights of Monte-Carlo, it is a retreat where architecture, design, and nature exist in perfect harmony, suspended between horizon and sea. Coming back here felt both familiar and exciting, like reconnecting with a friend you know well yet one that still manages to surprise you with new perspectives and experiences each time.
A Riviera Welcome Like No Other
My stay began in the most elegant way with the hotel’s private chauffeur service waiting to welcome me at the Côte d’Azur. There is something so special about gliding along the coastline with the windows down, the salty sea breeze drifting in, and the sun reflecting on the sparkling water. The journey itself becomes an introduction to the rhythm of the Riviera, calm, effortless, and infused with beauty at every turn. When the dramatic façade of the hotel finally appeared, it felt as though it was rising out of the cliff itself. The vision of architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte is striking: glass facades, clean geometric lines, and terraces that seem to hover above the Mediterranean. The building is bold and confident yet it never feels intrusive. Instead, it blends into the landscape as though it was always meant to be there. And honestly, could there be a more breathtaking welcome to the Riviera?

A Suite Framed by Sky and Sea
The suite became a sanctuary where comfort and elegance existed in perfect balance. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the endless blue of the sea, turning every hour of the day into a different painting of light and water. Inside, the design was contemporary yet softened by warm details. Sculptural furniture pieces sat beside layered textures, and every corner felt considered but never overdone. The private balcony was where I spent some of my most cherished moments: sipping a morning coffee as the sun rose slowly over the horizon, letting the sound of the waves below create a natural soundtrack, or watching the Riviera coastline glow as night settled in. It was a space that encouraged both rest and reflection, making me slow down and simply be present. There is a sense of intimacy in having the sea stretch endlessly in front of you, as if you are suspended between earth and sky.

Afternoons Drifting by the Infinity Pool
Days unfolded at a relaxed, unhurried pace and one of the highlights was certainly the infinity pool. Framed dramatically by sky and sea, it feels as though you are swimming directly above the coastline, with views sweeping from Monaco to Italy. I loved spending afternoons stretched out by the water with a book in hand, pausing occasionally just to take in the extraordinary setting. The pool terrace also offered the perfect backdrop for lunch, with fresh Mediterranean flavors paired with the warmth of the sun and the soft breeze rolling in from the coast. And truly, what could feel more indulgent than a long summer afternoon spent between sun, sea, and sky?

Golden Hours and Evenings of Flavour
Evenings at The Maybourne Riviera unfolded like a gentle story, beginning with golden hour at Dante, where cocktails are served as the coastline glows in shades of amber and rose. The atmosphere is refined but never stiff, and sitting there, watching the sun dip below the horizon with a perfectly crafted drink in hand, felt like the perfect prelude to the culinary journey that followed. Dinner at abc kitchens riviera by Jean-Georges Vongerichten was a celebration of freshness and creativity. Inspired by his New York concepts but adapted to the Côte d’Azur, the menu embraced local produce with Mediterranean and Latin influences, each dish vibrant and full of flavor.

Waking to Sunlight and Sea Breeze
Waking up at The Maybourne Riviera carried its own kind of quiet joy. The sunlight streaming through the glass walls, the sight of the Mediterranean stretching endlessly in front of me, and the soft sounds of the waves below created a sense of calm that set the tone for the entire day. Breakfasts became a cherished ritual. Some mornings I enjoyed them in the Riviera Restaurant, where the elegant setting and sweeping views enhanced every bite. On other days, I chose to have breakfast in my suite, savoring pastries, fresh fruit, and tea on the balcony while the coastline slowly came alive in the morning light. Both experiences were equally delightful and reminded me of the beauty of beginning the day at a slower, more mindful pace.
A Place Where Past and Present Meet
What makes The Maybourne Riviera so special is the way it combines history, architecture, and modern luxury. Originally the Vista Palace in the 1960s, the property was completely transformed and reopened in 2021, reimagined as a contemporary icon on the Côte d’Azur. Wilmotte’s architectural vision gives the building its bold presence, while interior contributions from renowned studios like Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, Pierre Yovanovitch, and Rigby & Rigby bring warmth and personality into every room. The result is a hotel that feels modern yet timeless, dramatic yet serene, luxurious yet deeply connected to its natural surroundings. It is a place where every detail has been carefully considered, and where guests can experience the Riviera in a way that feels authentic, inspiring, and memorable.
