Couple looks are a rather controversial topic. Some love them, some don’t but I have to say that I recently turned into a real enthusiast when it comes to couple looks. During the past year that we all spent mostly at our homes I thought about new ways of experimenting with fashion and couple looks somehow crossed my mind.It wasn’t easy at all to convince my boyfriend that this can be a fun thing to do but as I can be quite persistent he finally had no choice but agree on at least giving it a try. Couple looks work in so many ways and they of course do not necessarily have to come across like twinning. I see them more as a well composed look that is spread across two people. A continuous theme that gives a harmonious visual impression. No matter which style you personally prefer they will surely also work when worn as a couple. So far, I figured out that there are three ways how you can build your couple looks.
The first one is to focus on a consistent color range. My boyfriend and I started our couple look journey with that approach and with a rather casual style based on a loosely fitted pair of pants, white sneakers and sweaters. The colors of course do not need to match 100% piece by piece but there should be a clear visual consistency between the pieces you and your significant other are wearing.
The second way is to base the couple look on a certain center piece so we experimented around blazers which we both love and wear very often. We found some with similar cuts and color in each of our wardrobes and also went for color matching pants. Like this you have a clear visual consistency based on shape and color and we really like that look as it gave both of us the opportunity to combine it in our very individual ways yet it comes across as a well-arranged composition. I went with heels and a bow tie blouse whilst my boyfriend chose sneakers and a t-shirt – both casual chic but in very unique ways.

The third way of composing couple looks is by clearly dedicating your looks to a theme. There are many you could go for but as we both can’t wait for #stayathome to end we chose ‘Date Night’ as the topic of our look and I somehow think we nailed it quite well. It even made me look at little more forward to when we’ll finally be able to have real date nights again! The dress shoe in combination with my color matching heels and the blazers gives this couple look common denominators and on the other hand leaves room for personal taste and choice in style.
