In June this year, I had the honor to join Rolls-Royce for a beautiful short trip along the Côte d’Azur. As the South of France is one of my favorite areas to travel to, I would love to recap my journey and give you some insights on my trip. Maybe one or the other feels inspired tovisit some of the beautiful places we went to as well… I can only recommend you to do so!
As you surely know, since the first part of the 20th century the Côte d’Azur has established itself as the favored haunt of actors, artists, musicians and other wealthy luminaries of the Belle Époque and it remains to be since then. I love the Côte d’Azur for its picturesque villages, the amazing food, the spirit and the good mood that is in the air. Not many places embody the lightness of being as much as this place does! After arriving, the journey to the hotel took me past Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat which I had visited only a few weeks ago. Always worth a stop and a true pleasure to gaze at this part of French Riviera which I have become so fond of.
Me and my partner had the pleasure to be accommodated at the Maybourne Riviera Hotel in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Situated on the spectacular Mediterranean French coast, it overlooks beautiful Monaco. Maybourne Riviera Hotel is a dazzling block of criss-crossed lines and floor-to-ceiling glass by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte which is simply stunning to look at. Even from the beach, some 1,500 feet down, the Maybourne Riviera is an unabashed show-stopper with a modernist architecture that seems to emerge from the cliff. Light, translucent and with almost no break between the interior and the exterior. An absolute one of a kind at the Côte d’Azur!

Inside, the cavernous lobby sets the stage for a hotel that’s a monument to art and design featuring THE COUPLE by Louise Bourgeois. The rooms and suits are simply stunning and the view seeks its equal.
Gastronomic experiences that follow the rhythms of the land and sea, led by world-renowned chef Mauro Colagreco is what we experienced when dining at THE RIVIERA RESTAURANT. Overlooking the endless sea as well as Monaco while dining was for sure what I call ‘dinner goals’. The culinary creativity that left us with unforgettable memories. Definitely, an evening to remember!
On day two the journey continued with going to a place I visited for the 1st time ever – the beautiful village of Gourdon which holds the title ‘Plus beaux villages de France’. It for sure is a pretty place and definitely worth a visit! After a short coffee break Nice was next on the list. Lunch was served at the iconic Le Plongeoir. If you have not been to this outstanding place it surely should become a to do on your bucket list! At the end of the nineteenth century a stylish fishing boat was secured on a rock. During “La Belle Époque”, guests could eat and drink tea perched six meters above the waves. In 1941, architect René Livieri was commissioned to bring a new lease of life to the site, giving rise to the Diving Boards on the seaward side with a beach restaurant. It’s an exceptional location… With simply exceptional food! After cruising along the Côte d’Azur during the afternoon we arrived back at the Maybourne Riviera Hotel, took some time to relax and then got ready for dinner.

Inspired by Greek mythology and the water constellations of the sky, Mauro Colagreco’s CETO located at the Maybourne Riviera Hotel looks to the traditions of the past while forging ahead, focusing on sustainable fishing in tune with nature. What is very special at CETO is that the menu evolves and follows the rhythm of the water throughout the seasons, letting you experience the rich diversity of the Riviera’s verdant landscape and the Mediterranean Sea. It was such a delight! Tasty beyond words!

The following day, the short trip ended and I had to say goodbye to my beloved Côte d’Azur… But not for long so it’s rather an a bientôt! 😉
I hope this short travel journey has made you curious to visit Côte d’Azur and experience its absolutely unique spirit! There is always something to see, something to discover, something to experience…
