During my trip to Paris for Paris Fashion Week end of last year I had the great honour to receive an invitation to the DIOR SPRING-SUMMER 2020 Collection runway show. During the show Maria Grazia Chiuri presented the DIOR GARDEN CAPSULE that consists of ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and j’adiorable leather goods such as the essential 30 Montaigne, variations of the classic Saddle bag as well as one of my favourites the new Catherine Tote.

When I entered the venue, I was blown away by how holistically the overall theme was executed. It was an ode to the beauty and variety of nature that basically hit every sense as soon as you took a first glance at the poetic and pastoral garden that was built within the Paris-Longchamp hippodrome.

For the ready-to-wear DIOR SPRING-SUMMER 2020 collection Maria Grazia Chiuri drew inspiration from historic photographs of Catherine Dior showing her at the place she enjoyed the most – her garden. Catherine Dior – Christian Dior’s sister – is an essential figure in the history of the house Dior. Being described as a courageous heroine of unique determination and a force of character her nickname MISS DIOR was chosen in her honour for the House’s now iconic perfume.

Catherine was a gardener in the most complete and profound sense of the term – a woman who cultivated freedom and independence, acting in harmony with nature and the cycle of seasons. This spirit you can feel in every piece of the ready-to-wear DIOR SPRING-SUMMER 2020 collection with its designs that portrait a poetic and pastoral world in which stripes and tie-dye denim flourish.

Although, being inspired by the past the creations do also stand for raising present questions about what caring for plants and flowers means today and if it is still possible to re-balance this relationship even though we live in an era where mankind rules the planet. Therefore, Maria Grazia Chiuri aimed to create a collection that stands for an “inclusive garden”, a place of co-existence and diversity in which every gesture counts. The landscape artist of Coloco, that Maria Grazia Chiuri teamed up with for the show, conceived it like a moment suspended in time, where plants from diverse origins temporarily come together. I was really impressed by the fact that each of the trees that were present during the DIOR SPRING-SUMMER 2020 runway show will have a 2nd life joining several long-term projects so that the message of this pluralistic garden will endure. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s sees a garden -no matter how small or vast – as an infinite and ongoing project that is both delicate and determined and the creative expression of the mindfulness and caring character of the woman gardener herself.

I have to admit that I was really impressed by the thinking behind this artistic show and the collection that was presented and it made me think about the culture of gardening and the meaning it has for the people who live it as a passion and their relationship with nature. It was a great journey into a different kind of thinking and the way it was executed both during the runway show as well as within the collection is simply outstanding. The collection itself for me quite obvious transports a lot of the attributes mention above. It is both feminine and strong, emotional and romantic yet with clear lines and strong cuts. Each of the collection’s pieces sets a statement for inclusivity of contrasts, for establishing a new norm when it comes to handling things that might seem to be overruled easily and for the pleasure of taking care.

I added a few pictures of the show and my favourite pieces for you so you can get a feeling of how amazingly both come together in expressing this great message.

On the last pictures you see me wearing one of my favourite head to toe DIOR looks from the DIOR SPRING-SUMMER 2020 ready-to-wear show, that I wore during my last PFW adventure beginning of this year.
