Finally, my private fixer upper project is completed! The renovation of my new apartment is done and I can’t wait to take you on a tour and describe to you what has been done to this gem!

Maybe you remember from one of my previous IG TVs how the entrance area looked before the renovation? It had a build in closet which made the area appear very narrow. When you entered the apartment, it felt as if you stand in front of a wall. THELEN DRIFTE, the family owned furniture shop and manufactory where I also got my new kitchen from, gave me the advice to remove the build in closet and replace it with a mirrored wall which enlarges the room visually. The result is a completely different feeling when you enter the apartment – open and welcoming.

The customized coatrooms by THELEN DRIFTE have found a place left and right from the bedroom door. Like this the „dead space“ in these corners is used most efficiently. On top a super pretty panelling by THELEN DRIFTE’s manufactory which serves as a smart cover for the underfloor heating was added. I am a huge fan of underfloor heating as I have cold feet all the time and I hope the now resident will enjoy this comforting feature as well.Wall Paint – Caparol Icons

As you surely know I turned this apartment upside down, added new electric connections and sockets as well as switches, changed the wall plastering and exchanged the doors into lovely white varnish doors by FURNIERHOLZ DÜSSELDORF which are installed as bathroom and bedroom doors. The kitchen as well as the gallery build in closet doors are modern gallery style doors which give the apartment a cool and state of the art look.

Wall colors play a significant role in an apartment as they influence mood and feelings. As I wish that the resident-to-be feels homey in the new apartment I put a lot of effort in the color concept. I was supported by CAPAROL ICONS and their color consultant to pick not only classic but also a bit bolder colors. The main color in the generous living area and the gallery is NO 11 Hommage to Berlin. This light creme shade is perfect for the cozy and vivid living spaces. The entire wooden ceilings are painted in the soft NO 04 White Russian to give all rooms a spacious and open feeling. For the rest of the apartment we went for bolder colors namely NO 07 Disco Ball in the bedroom and the wonderful grey NO 08 Pet Rock with silk finish in the bathroom which matches perfectly with the marble looking tiles. The entrance area is painted in the boldest color NO 65 Skater. This dark petrol shade has a ‘wow-effect’ that I think is super suitable for the entrance area. In the bedroom THELEN DRIFTE installed a beautiful build in closet which makes perfect use of the niche behind the door. I also had new electric connections build in and the room is wired up for television now as maybe the new resident of the apartment likes to watch TV in bed. In case she or he doesn’t it can easily be covered with a framed picture or painting. As I love the read in bed before falling asleep I also had reading lamp connectors installed left and right from where the bed is planned to be positioned.

To get some cozi- and lifelines into the apartment THELEN DRIFTE was so kind and provided some furniture pieces to me. I really think that even though the apartment is not fully furnished this beautiful furniture already gives it a very nice atmosphere.

Of course, there was also a new lighting concept developed and now both wooden panels in the living area are lit indirectly.

Still, the gallery is one of my favorite places in this apartment. So cozy and full of light! The previously installed walk in closet was only half the size – maybe some of you remember it from one of my earlier IG TVs where I also asked whether I should keep the little niche behind the closet or close it for the sake of bigger storage space and 80% of you voted for the bigger walk-in closet which I then also turned into reality. The beautiful doors by LOFT FX – same as the kitchen door – visually enlarge the room and give it a modern look & feel whilst the walk-in closet is now really spacious and the perfect storage space.

Flooring is such an important element to bring a comfortable atmosphere into a place. As you might know, I love parquet flooring as the wooden planks create a warm and cozy ambience in every room. For the flooring I again worked with PARKETT DIETRICH who also installed the flooring of my own apartment. PARKETT DIETRICH, a family owned business since 1918, offers a huge range of different high-quality parquet options and a great service in their beautiful showrooms. I went for a fabulous air-dried oak parquet in Ginger Grey. The planks come in different lengths and widths with a beautiful textured surface and create an amazing atmosphere. I am so in love with this wonderful cottage style flooring!
